Milk porridge recipes. Milk and dairy-free baby cereals

Minced meat

Milk porridge is a tasty and healthy food that saturates the body with vitamins and useful elements, improves immunity, gives strength and energy. But pediatricians do not recommend giving milk porridge in the first months of complementary feeding, since cow and goat milk are difficult to digest. This type of diet can cause digestive problems, upset stools, and allergies. Especially if it is a breastfed baby.

But milk porridge performs a number of important functions and helps to solve the following problems:

  • Slow weight gain or lack of weight. How to calculate the normal weight of a baby, see the link;
  • Deficiency of vitamins of group B. In children, the condition of hair, teeth and nails worsens, growth and development are slowed down, material metabolism is disturbed;
  • Lack or absence of breast milk;
  • Allergy or rejection of formula milk.

In the article, we will consider when and how you can give milk porridge for children under one year old. We will find out when and what cereals to include in the child's complementary foods.

What porridge to start with

They start with gluten-free cereals in the water. Babies on artificial feeding begin to give adult food from four months, porridge for babies is given from six months. The most optimal is buckwheat, which is characterized by hypoallergenicity and easy digestibility. It is rich in iron, magnesium, phosphorus and B vitamins.

A week later, rice porridge is introduced, and a week later, corn porridge. These cereals are gluten free, highly digestible and rarely cause allergies. If complementary feeding is successful, gluten grains are started. They are more difficult to digest and can cause allergies, but they effectively cleanse the body and remove toxins, strengthen immunity, have a positive effect on the work of internal organs, and contribute to the full development and proper growth of the baby.

Among gluten grains, oatmeal is first included, then wheat, barley is given, and after 11-12 months - semolina. Semolina porridge is considered the most useless and dangerous porridge, as it often causes allergies and leads to excess weight. However, if the baby is underweight, it will effectively help the baby.

Rules for introducing porridge into complementary foods

  • The introduction of porridge begins with 0.5-1 teaspoon. Each time the portion is increased by one teaspoon until it reaches 120-150 grams;
  • At eight months, the daily norm of porridge is 160-170 grams, at nine - about 180 grams, a year - 200 grams. But these are conditional recommendations, when choosing a portion, rely on the development and needs of the child;
  • When introducing a new product into the baby's diet, carefully monitor the state of health. Adult food can cause stool disturbances and food allergies, symptoms of which appear within two days. Read more about food allergies in babies;
  • Continue giving your baby the product if there is no negative reaction. If you feel worse, discontinue use and contact your pediatrician. Do not self-medicate! By the way, even if a child has a food allergy, with proper treatment and diet, it will go away by 4-5 years;

  • Between the introduction of a new porridge or product, make intervals of one to two weeks so that the body gets used to it and reacts calmly;
  • For children under one year old, food is prepared without sugar, salt and other spices. You can add breast milk or vegetable oil to the porridge. After 7-8 months, soaked chopped dried fruits, boiled and butter are put in the dish. After 9 months - boiled fruits and berries in a puree consistency;
  • You can introduce porridge from several grains after each ingredient is included in the child's diet. The same applies to cereals with other additives (fruits, vegetables, etc.);
  • The porridge should be liquid and without lumps, its consistency should be like mashed potatoes. You only need to feed your baby from a spoon, do not use bottles!

When and how to introduce milk porridge

Some parents think that it is better to choose goat's milk, since it is closer to breast milk in composition. But this product is digested and absorbed longer and more difficult, so such cereals are allowed for children over 18 months old. Goat milk is recommended for use with or allergy to cow protein.

Before cooking, the cereals must be ground to a flour consistency and then boiled in water. Milk mixture or breast milk is added to the finished mass. After each cereal is introduced into the infant's diet, breast milk (mixture) is replaced with whole cow milk or store milk. Choose a low-fat product. If it is a natural homemade drink, dilute it 1 to 1 with water.

It is advisable to cook a new porridge every time. The finished dish can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than a day, and then reheated in a water bath. If you don't want to cook it yourself, you can buy ready-made milk porridge. The finished product contains the most balanced and adapted composition, which is ideal for complementary feeding.

Manufacturers today offer a wide variety of products for children. Choose cereals without flavors, GMOs and preservatives, preferably without salt and with a minimum of sugar. Before buying, carefully study the composition and expiration date, check the integrity of the packaging. Choose food only for the age of the child. Porridge is an irreplaceable dish on the children's menu. It is a unique source of energy, plant proteins, B vitamins and various minerals. Porridge is introduced into the baby's diet in the period from 4 to 6 months. By this age, the baby begins to move more and spends more energy, so he needs more high-calorie food to replenish energy losses.

Usually, porridge is introduced into the child's diet after fruit and vegetable purees. However, according to individual indications, it can be introduced into the child's diet as the first. So, for small children it is better to first introduce porridge into the diet, and then mashed potatoes.

The modern food industry offers a variety of cereals. They are not only easy to use, but also have a number of wonderful properties - they are enriched with vitamins, minerals, iron; easy to swallow and digest; have a delicate taste and a comfortable texture. They do not contain preservatives, artificial colors, stabilizers or chemical additives. Porridges are divided into:

  • dairy, dairy-free;
  • mono- and multicomponent;
  • gluten-free (low-allergenic) and gluten-free;
  • containing various additives;
  • therapeutic and prophylactic.

It is recommended to introduce dairy-free gluten-free cereals as the first complementary food. These include rice, buckwheat and corn. Provided that the baby tolerates these types of cereals well, you can switch to milk porridges and cereals with various additives. Milk porridges are made on the basis of, they are high in calories and are intended for the nutrition of healthy children. Porridge with fruit and vegetable additives stimulate the intestines, they are introduced into the diet from 6-7 months. From 9-11 months, you can introduce into the baby's diet porridge made from whole-grain cereals, specially designed for baby food.

There are a number of medicinal cereals designed for children with certain problems. Low-allergenic cereals are prepared on the basis of one type of cereal, do not contain gluten, fruit fillers, fructose and are intended for children with allergies.

Dairy-free cereals are prescribed for children with lactase deficiency and children with cow's milk protein allergy. Porridge with prebiotics contains inulin and lactulose. They are intended for children with a tendency to constipation.

Commercial porridges have an advantage over home-made ones. Firstly, modern technologies make it possible to preserve vitamins in products as much as possible, to make cereals useful, varied and easy to digest. Production technologies allow to process vegetables and fruits without loss of useful properties, safely combine various important ingredients in one product, as well as add all the necessary substances (vitamins, minerals) and protect the growing baby from their lack.

Dairy-free instant cereals are made, as a rule, on the basis of rice, buckwheat or corn flour, they can also include fruits (bananas, apples). Such cereals do not require boiling, they can be dissolved in water, in any milk diet, familiar to a child, in diluted cow's milk. Porridge is well digested, does not contain sugar, gluten, and is enriched with vitamins.

Buckwheat porridge is rich in vegetable proteins, valuable in amino acid composition. It is gluten free and has the highest fiber content. It contains vitamins B1, B2, E, salts of iron, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. It has the highest nutritional value.

Rice porridge has a low protein content, but it is very valuable in amino acid composition. Gluten free. The richest in starch content, it is low in sugars, fats and dietary fiber. Rice is well digested, belongs to dietary products, is recommended for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (but only if the baby does not have constipation).

Corn porridge is low in protein, gluten free, high in carbohydrates, rich in dietary fiber, but low in vitamins and minerals. It is able to inhibit the processes of fermentation and putrefaction in the intestines.

Children with a tendency to constipation are first introduced to cereals with a high content of dietary fiber (buckwheat, corn), and after six months, oatmeal is added. Babies with unstable loose stools are advised to start with rice porridge and limit the use of buckwheat and oatmeal.

Instant milk porridge prepared on the basis of infant milk formula, adapted to the needs infant... They are enriched with essential vitamins, calcium, iron, iodine, zinc, are gluten free and easily soluble in water.

Organic milk is the most optimal for preparing mixtures, cereals and other dairy products for young children. It has several important advantages: it has a naturally balanced composition and contains up to 3-4 times more polyunsaturated fatty acids, which play an important role in the formation of the brain and retina, cell functioning and strengthening the immune system. They are best absorbed when found naturally in milk. If milk was artificially fortified with them, assimilation is worse. The secret of organic milk is simple: it is produced by cows that spend 220 days a year on ecologically clean pastures, feed on grass and hay, drink clean water and breathe clean air. Such milk is produced only on farms certified for the production of environmentally friendly products, under strict control. The BIO badge on the packaging will help you determine if a dairy product is environmentally friendly.

Cereal cereals are made from specially processed cereals, as a rule, these are cereals from whole grains of rice, wheat, oats, which retain all the nutrients and are well absorbed. The composition also includes fruits (apples, peaches, banana, mango), as well as fruit juices (for example, apple or orange) and water, which makes the porridge completely ready to eat. These cereals are low in acid, do not contain milk protein, and are produced without added sugar, flavorings, colors, preservatives or thickeners. And if the composition of such porridge includes organic vegetables and fruits, then they contain 10-15% more vitamins and useful microelements, because such vegetables and fruits are grown in ecologically clean conditions: on ecologically clean lands, without the use of artificial fertilizers and only traditional methods.

Oatmeal is rich not only in valuable vegetable proteins, but also has a high content of vegetable fats. It contains gluten, a lot of dietary fiber. It contains vitamins B1, B2, PP, E, calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium salts. Oatmeal has a high energy value. It is an excellent adsorbent of heavy metal salts, which is especially important for residents of large industrial cities.

Semolina porridge has a fairly high protein content, which has a low biological value. Contains gluten, also a lot of starch and little fiber, fat.

Ready-to-eat industrial milk porridge, prepared on the basis of a milk mixture adapted to the needs of the child, also includes boiled rice or semolina, fruit puree (apples, pears, apricots). Porridge is enriched with vitamins C, A, E, D, B1 and microelements.

If you wish, you can cook the porridge yourself. The requirements for homemade porridge are as follows. The porridge is boiled in water, and then 20-30 ml of breast milk or formula is added to it. You can add butter (3-5 gr.) Or baby cream 10% to cereals of your own production. Whole milk is used in the preparation of cereals for children over one year old. Semolina porridge can be prepared for children only after a year. Porridge made from several grains can be cooked only after you have made sure that the baby is not allergic to individual components.

Somehow it so happened that we have the majority of baby food - Humana. Porridge especially, because the variety is large and the child eats it best. Allergies, again, no. I always read the composition very carefully, especially when it comes to baby food. My children didn’t eat homemade porridge for a long time: not because I was lazy, but because I didn’t want to. They really didn’t want to - up to the gag reflex :-) Then I went to a large store, re-read all the annotations on all the packs and chose several dairy-free ones for the first tasting. And the child chose for himself a more suitable Humana. They stayed on it. And after a while, he began to eat adult porridge without any problems.

After the introduction of vegetable complementary foods, at the age of about 6 months, cereals may already appear in the child's diet. From the moment they are entered into the menu, they become one of the most important sources of nutrients for a growing body: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fiber. The first cereals for the baby are boiled in water, milk mixtures or breast milk, you can add cow's milk (preferably ultra-pasteurized) and cream only when the child reaches one year of age. Introducing porridge, like any new food, is worth starting with one spoon and gradually increasing the portion. From the age of one, when a child already has enough teeth, he can safely eat almost any cereal porridge cooked in milk.

Of course, you can always buy ready-made cereals of industrial production, which are offered in abundance by modern shops and pharmacies. However, homemade cereals have a number of fairly significant advantages:

You know for sure that the groats have not undergone any preliminary treatments;

Are you sure that there is no sugar in the porridge, which is not at all useful for the baby's delicate body;

Seasonal vegetables and fruits in cereals will enrich the child's body with fresh natural vitamins.

In addition, there are times when the baby categorically refuses to eat any brand of store cereals. Then, willy-nilly, mother will have to carry out culinary experiments herself until she has a porridge of optimal taste and composition, which completely satisfies the wishes of a tiny gourmet.

For cooking milk porridge for a child from one year old, you can use cow or goat milk. Milk obtained in the dairy kitchen, as well as store-bought ultra-pasteurized or sterilized milk, need not be boiled, but pasteurized milk must be boiled for two to three minutes. Cereals suitable for cooking porridge for a baby are, first of all, and. It will also be useful, but it must be processed in a special way - gluten, which can cause allergies, is removed from corn intended for baby food. After these types of cereals, you can enter semolina, millet, barley and pearl barley porridge.

Before cooking, any cereals, except for semolina and corn, must be sorted out. Buckwheat, pearl barley, millet, barley and rice will also need to be washed. To make the porridge have a more pleasant aroma and cook faster, heat the cereal before cooking in a frying pan without oil. So that the milk does not lose its benefits due to prolonged processing, but the porridge can be boiled enough at the same time, you should first boil it in water or diluted milk until the cereal absorbs all the liquid, and only then dilute with hot milk, boil and remove from heat.

So that the baby does not get bored of the bored taste, we advise you to offer him a new porridge every day of the week. An excellent option for starting the week would be, for example,. Use Hercules flakes for cooking - this is already a well-established quality standard. To make the porridge more tender and easy to digest, grind the flakes with a coffee grinder. Add butter and sweeteners (if you think this is required) after boiling, when the porridge has cooled slightly. It is worth noting that it is better to sweeten porridge for children not with sugar, but with Jerusalem artichoke syrup, maple syrup, honey, and best of all with fruits and berries. Oatmeal with chopped banana is especially tasty. If the baby doesn't even like such porridge, you can whip it in a blender - the resulting delicate cream will certainly be eaten in the blink of an eye.

The next day, cook tasty and healthy buckwheat for your child. Use a high-quality kernel, crushed in a coffee grinder: first, boil it in water until thick, and then dilute with milk, boil and season with butter. You can cook and.

For the Wednesday menu, millet porridge is suitable. You can cook it in baked milk - thanks to this, it will come out more tender and sweeter. Cook it to a semi-liquid consistency, and at the end of cooking add butter or cream and fresh fruit. You can also cook it: it is very useful and absolutely all children like it.

Thursday is time for tender rice porridge. It is also best to grind rice grains before cooking this porridge using a blender and a coffee grinder. You can cook any kind of rice porridge, from round to brown. When cooking, it is good to add fruits to it: apples, bananas or pears. will help you save time and effort.

For Friday breakfast or lunch, cook barley for your child. To cook barley porridge for a child, you must first soak the cereal for about 12 hours, and then cook it for three to six hours in a water bath. You can add cream or butter and dried fruits soaked in water to the finished barley.

On Saturday you can offer your baby an unusual surprise - porridge with coconut milk. It is best to cook semolina or oatmeal like this. Coconut milk should be mixed with water and brought to a boil over medium heat. After that, slowly add the cereal, cook the porridge for about 5 minutes, let it brew for another 10 minutes, and then serve, sweetened with syrup, fruit puree or fresh fruit.

Sunday is the time to pamper your child with sweet corn porridge! You can boil wholemeal porridge (it will take about an hour) or grind it in a coffee grinder (then you will need a little over half an hour). If the porridge turns out to be lumpy, rub it through a sieve.

6. Drain the rest of the water, rinse the millet and fill it with milk. Mix, add salt and sugar and put back on the stove. While stirring, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer the porridge under the lid for about 5-7 minutes.

Semolina milk porridge

Semolina itself is not rich in vitamins. But in its composition there is a useful tissue that is very easily absorbed by the body. Semolina also helps to strengthen bones and teeth very well. Since it contains calcium. In general, the benefits are obvious. And I see no barriers not to cook semolina for breakfast. Moreover, in my opinion, this is the simplest porridge in the world, which takes record time to cook.

There is only one but. The semolina burns very quickly to the walls of the dishes. So for its preparation, you need to take dishes with a non-stick coating or at least with thick walls. Otherwise, be prepared to wash the pot after the semolina.

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of milk.
  • 3 tablespoons of semolina.
  • 30-40 grams of butter.
  • Salt and sugar to taste.

Cooking process:

The recipe is very simple and the porridge is obtained without lumps.

1. Before making semolina porridge, my grandmother always moistened a saucepan with cold water and only then poured milk into it. She said that this way milk and cereals would not burn to the walls.

2. And so rinse the pan with water. Pour milk into it and put it on the stove.

3. A glass of milk will boil very quickly, so you shouldn't go far.

4. While the milk boils, you can add salt and sugar, mix and wait until the milk begins to boil. It will start, and not already boil.

5.At this moment, we begin to gradually fill up the cereal. So that the semolina does not come into lumps. Pour the groats in a thin stream and stir the milk continuously. It is very convenient to do this with a whisk.

6. And so the cereal in milk is left a little literally 2-3 minutes to boil the porridge and it is completely ready.

7. When boiling, semolina quickly swells and it may turn out that there will be a lot of cereals and the porridge will become thick almost immediately. It's not scary. Turn off the heating, cover with a lid and leave the semolina for 3-4 minutes, the porridge will come to readiness itself.

8. Before serving in the still hot porridge, throw a piece of butter, mix it and you can serve the porridge on the table.

9. Also, before serving, you can always add raisins or finely chopped prunes to milk porridge.

Semolina porridge ready Bon appetit.

Oatmeal with milk

Properly cooked oatmeal can be your favorite breakfast dish. In addition, this milk porridge is able to cleanse the body of toxins very well. Saturate it with fiber, proteins and carbohydrates. And what else do you need for a perfect breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • Half a glass of oatmeal.
  • A glass of milk. Desirable natural.
  • 30-50 grams of butter.
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar.
  • A handful of raisins.
  • A pinch of salt.

Cooking process:

For oatmeal, it is best to use a thick-walled pans or a double-bottomed saucepan.

1.Pour the raisins with cold water and let it stand for 15-20 minutes, drain the water.

2.Pour milk into a saucepan and place it on the stove.

3. Bring the milk to a boil, add oatmeal, salt and sugar.

4. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5. For 2-3 minutes until ready, throw in the raisins and mix.

6. When the porridge is ready, put the butter in the pan and cover with a lid. We give the porridge 3 minutes to rest and can be served.

7. Oatmeal in milk with raisins is ready. Bon Appetit.

Buckwheat porridge with milk

Buckwheat, like all other cereals, is very useful and nutritious. Having a snack for breakfast with buckwheat, you can easily hold out until lunch. Buckwheat is often prepared as a side dish for main courses and rarely for breakfast. This is all due to the fact that many housewives do not dare to bother in the morning and cook buckwheat for a long time.

Although buckwheat can be said to be one of a kind in that it needs very little to be cooked. Basically, this cereal itself comes to readiness practically without human intervention.

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of buckwheat.
  • 3 glasses of milk.
  • 1.5 cups of water.
  • Butter.
  • Salt and sugar to taste.

Cooking process:

1.In order to prepare crumbly buckwheat porridge, we take the most ordinary dishes. There is no need for non-stick coatings and thick walls with a double bottom. We take the most ordinary saucepan with a lid.

2.And so, before cooking, inspect the cereal if there are foreign impurities in it, sort and rinse the cereal.

3.Pour the cereal into a saucepan, pour water, add a little salt and send it to the stove.

4. Bring to a boil and boil for 5-10 minutes until all the water has boiled away. When all the water has practically boiled away. Turn off the heating under the pan, cover it with a lid and leave it for 5 minutes.

5. During this time, buckwheat will reach readiness.

6. After 5 minutes, pour in milk, add sugar, mix and bring to a boil.

7. Boil for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat, add butter, cover and let the porridge stand for 3-4 minutes.

8. Now you can call the others for breakfast and serve fresh buckwheat porridge with milk. Bon Appetit.

Milk porridge made from corn grits

Not long ago there was a corn boom in our country and everyone knew how good corn is. I think that your mothers and grandmothers still remember this time. Well, for those who are younger, let me remind you that there is a lot of natural sugar, vitamins and carbohydrates in corn.

Corn porridge is not often seen on tables. The reason for this is that very few people know how to properly cook corn grits. Very often it turns out to be tough and thick. But if you approach the solution of the problem correctly, then I think you can cook a tasty and satisfying porridge in the morning.

Ingredients:

  • A glass of corn grits.
  • Two glasses of milk.
  • Three glasses of water.
  • 1-2 tablespoons of sugar.
  • A pinch of salt.
  • Vegetable oil.
  • Dried fruits to taste.

Cooking process:

1. Before cooking, rinse the cereals well.

2. Put in a saucepan, pour water, add a little salt and send to the stove.

3.Bring to a boil, reduce heat by 40%. And cook until all the water boils away. Make sure that the groats do not burn to the walls of the dishes. You constantly need to stir the corn.

4. When the water practically boils away, pour in milk, add sugar and butter, mix and cook for 3-4 minutes.

6. In 5 minutes you have delicious and nutritious corn porridge on your table.

Bon Appetit.

With the standard scheme for introducing complementary foods, the next step after vegetables to introduce the baby to food from the common table is porridge. They are nutritious, rich in valuable substances and "long-playing" carbohydrates, which will provide the baby with energy to explore the world around him during the day and a calm and long sleep at night. A child under one year old must first enter cereal, and then cereal dairy-free baby cereals. The finished dish is diluted with the usual mixture or mother's milk.

Types of cereals for baby food

Baby cereals, as an element of complementary foods, are distinguished:
  • dairy-free - this type is most suitable for starting complementary foods, especially at the age of up to 9-12 months, in the first days of intestinal diseases, with lactose deficiency;
  • dairy - nutritionists advise to enter no earlier than 9-10 months if they are on goat's milk, 12 if on cow's milk;
  • gluten-containing - cereals: oat, barley, semolina, corn ("adult");
  • gluten-free - cereals: rice, buckwheat, corn for children, millet;
  • dry instant - do not require cooking on fire, it is enough to pour warm boiled water and let stand for 3-5 minutes;
  • dry, in need of cooking;
  • "Muesli" - for babies from 9 months and older;
  • Wellings or drinking cereals, usually cereals. They are convenient in the sense that they help babies (especially those who are on IV) imperceptibly "rebuild" from liquid food to thick food. Better to buy the same brand as your favorite formula.

The role of cereals in a child's diet

Porridge is a very valuable product in the diet of both an adult and a small person. Dishes from cereals and cereals are included in the basis - a special schematic representation of the basics of a healthy diet. Both cereals and cereals are sources of fiber, which, as you know, improves digestion processes, acts as a sorbent, removing harmful substances from the body, and helps to reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol. Also, porridge is a storehouse of macronutrients and vitamins, without which the harmonious development of a child is impossible. Each of them is useful in its own way.

Buckwheat

Buckwheat is not unreasonably considered the queen of porridge. It is ideal for getting started with dairy-free cereals, including as a first introduction to adult nutrition.

  • Buckwheat is rich in vitamins PP, E, B1, B2 and B9 (folic acid). The latter is vital for the creation and growth of new cells, support of their functioning, and stable functioning of the nervous system.
  • It contains protein, which is similar in composition to the protein of chicken eggs, but lighter in digestibility. In addition, a number of essential amino acids have been found in cereals.
  • Buckwheat porridge is a valuable source of iron, necessary for blood formation and prevention of anemia, as well as phosphorus and calcium (bone growth), zinc (nail and skin health), copper, manganese.
  • Buckwheat is a storehouse of a group of unsaturated fatty acids Omega 3, the synthesis of which does not occur in the human body. They are needed to support normal child growth, kidney function, accelerate the immune response and heal wounds, and platelet clotting.
  • A substance called rutin, which helps lower blood pressure, can also be found in this dish.

Rice

Dairy-free rice porridge fortified with dietary fiber is an ideal complementary food for babies with a tendency to diarrhea. She perfectly "strengthens" and improves digestion.

  • White rice is a source of carbohydrates, which means energy. It is inferior in the content of nutrients to dark unpolished, but it is easier for the delicate intestines of the baby.
  • Rice porridge is rich in B vitamins, which automatically makes it necessary for the functioning of the brain.
  • It is also an excellent body cleaner from toxins and toxins, which is very important in regions with poor environmental conditions.

Corn

For primary feeding, it is recommended to buy special baby, gluten-free and dairy-free corn porridge. Dishes with store-bought, "adult" cereals can be introduced to the child closer to the year, when the digestive system becomes more mature.
  • Corn porridge among cereals is the leader in the content of vitamin A. It improves the appearance and function of the skin (in infants, as you know, the processes of thermoregulation and sweating are not quite normal yet).
  • Mamalyga is rich in silicon and fluorine - trace elements that strengthen bones, hair and teeth growth.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal for adults is mainly associated with dietary nutrition, but it can be introduced into the baby's diet no earlier than 7-8 months, depending on . The reason is that oatmeal contains gluten, a vegetable protein that, without preliminary preparation of the baby's gastrointestinal tract, may seem too heavy to digest. Nevertheless:
  • Oatmeal contains a lot of vitamins H, E, PP, group B. It is also a source of essential amino acids, incl. and methionine - a reliable friend of the nervous system.
  • Eating oat porridge improves the functioning of the pancreas and liver, as well as facilitates the process of assimilation and synthesis of fats.

Semolina

But semolina, which our generation has been eating since 3-4 months, is in last place in the modern ranking of baby food. Yes, it is nourishing, tender and tasty, but, as it turned out, it slows down the absorption of calcium and interferes with the synthesis of vitamin D. In addition, semolina is the leader in gluten content - an enzyme is simply not yet produced in the infant's digestive tract and is able to break it down. Nutritionists strongly recommend introducing it into the diet after a year, and not eating more often 1-2 times a week. "Love" for semolina porridge threatens overweight, liver dysfunction and the development of food allergies.
  • Semolina is not inferior to others in terms of the content of vegetable protein, folic acid, vitamins E and group B, but cholecalciferol (B3) is several times less.
  • Among the minerals in semolina, potassium and phosphorus are in the lead (130 mg and 85 mg per 100 g, respectively). There is also calcium, sulfur, magnesium, chlorine, iron, zinc, vanadium, molybdenum - only about 20 different micro- and macroelements.
In order for the child to receive all the necessary substances, after the introduction of each type of porridge, it is ideal to cook them "in a circle", ie. alternate.

When to introduce dairy-free cereals?

Based on which scenario for the introduction of the baby to the "adult" table the duet of the mother and the pediatrician stopped, the introduction of monocomponent cereal dairy-free baby cereals should approximately occur at 5.5-6.5 months, if this is the initial complementary feeding, and at 7 months, if porridge, as a second complementary food, is offered after or fermented milk products.

The introduction of monocomponent cereal dairy-free cereals (oatmeal, millet, barley, semolina) can be started from 9 months, but most children's nutritionists are still inclined to the position that is better after a year. Recent studies show that the child's gastrointestinal tract begins to produce an enzyme capable of breaking down gluten only from 2-2.5 years of age.

It is recommended to start with dairy-free cereals as the first complementary food for babies with poor weight gain and frequent stools. The most appropriate reason to start feeding with this dish is viral diarrhea and the diagnosis "malnutrition", in which the baby lags behind in weight.

Only 4-7 weeks after the start of the introduction of dairy-free cereals, it is possible to acquaint the crumbs with one-component dairy, but only for the conditions that the appearance of the first in the diet of the first child suffered without negative reactions.

How to choose porridge for baby food?

Mothers, probably, have already noticed that the whole article focuses on cereals, Dairy-free baby cereals. As mentioned above, these should be the starting point for primary or secondary complementary foods. This does not mean that milk cannot be added at all: ready-made dairy-free porridge can and should be diluted with milk expressed from the breast or a mixture that is fed to the baby.

Buy ready-made baby porridge or cook it yourself with "adult" cereal - no difference, it all depends on the mother's free time. From the point of view of convenience, at first it is preferable to start acquaintance with cereals with one-component "packaging" options. In addition, they are hypoallergenic, have a structure appropriate for the age of the child, and are quick to prepare.

It is best to start complementary foods with buckwheat or rice. Study the packaging carefully and make sure once again that it is not in milk, and also does not have any flavor additives - sugar, salt, flavors, etc.

Babies suffering from constipation need the introduction of cereals, rich in dietary fiber, into the diet. These include buckwheat and baby corn.

For babies with unstable stools, it would be reasonable to give rice porridge, practically avoiding buckwheat and oatmeal.

Children with any form of food allergy and atopic dermatitis should not be fed dairy and gluten products for up to a year.

How to introduce dairy-free and milk-containing porridge?

Pediatric nutritionists recommend the following sequence for introducing cereals into the baby's diet:
  • 6-7 months: rice, buckwheat, corn;
  • 7-8 months: oatmeal, + you can offer multicomponent from a mixture of rice, corn and buckwheat;
  • 9-10 months: barley, pearl barley, millet, rye;
  • 10-12 months: offer multigrain from the above components;
  • 12 months and older - wheat, semolina.
In this case, you need to maintain the following rule:
(1) Dairy-free gluten-free → (2) Dairy-free gluten-free → (3) Dairy-free gluten-free → (4) Dairy-free gluten.

Multi-component cereals from a mixture of cereals are introduced only when the child is familiar with each of the ingredients separately.

After 8-9 months, finely chopped fruits or dried fruits, berries can be added to cereal or cereal dishes in small quantities.

From 10 months, porridge can be cooked in diluted 1: 1 goat's milk (after it has been introduced into the diet), and from 12 months on diluted 1: 1 cow's milk (also after successful introduction).

The ideal time is lunch. If porridge is the first complementary food, then they start with half a teaspoon, and every new day the volume is increased. Until the amount of porridge reaches the age norm (50-100 g at 6 months and 100-150 g at 7 months), the child is breastfed. In principle, if the mother of the GV is not going to roll up yet, the breast can still be offered.

If porridge is the second complementary food, after vegetables or sour milk, it is still given in the morning. Porridge is offered before vegetable puree or mixed with it. The introduction scheme remains the same: first, half a teaspoon, then a whole one, then 2 spoons, and until the new food "pushes" vegetables from breakfast. At this very time, the displaced vegetable puree is fed to the child in one of the afternoon meals, allowing him to “fill up” with the breast / mixture.

In the case of using a special porridge for baby food, it is bred according to the instructions. If a mother prepares complementary foods from ordinary cereals, then you need to adhere to a special recipe. You will need to cook 5% porridge - at the rate of 5 g of cereal per 100 water. The child is fed such a thin porridge for about 7 days, until they are convinced of the absence of any negative reactions and bring it to the age volume. Then the dish is prepared already thicker - at the rate of 10 g of cereal per 100 g of water, and again 5-7 days are taken for the child to get used to it. Only after two weeks can you start introducing a new cereal.

Important! You can not give the baby porridge from a bottle - only from a spoon. It is necessary that in the oral cavity it undergoes a preliminary enzymatic treatment with saliva, namely its components - amylase and lysozyme. These enzymes help the food break down into molecular-sized substances in the stomach.

Daily amount of porridge from 6 months to a year

The numbers in the table are approximate, the child can eat either a little more or a little less.

An illustrative diagram of the introduction of dairy-free porridge

The following table - the scheme for entering dairy-free baby cereals into the infant's menu - is not an axiom when introducing complementary foods, but it can be perfectly used by parents without adjustment. The scheme is designed so that the baby has already received food in the form of vegetable puree, familiarity with porridge occurs in the first half of the day, the introduction of cereals occurs normally, without deterioration of the child's health.

Popular baby food brands: dairy and dairy-free cereals

Almost all manufacturers of baby food produce a line of cereals for babies. In the search for the "very" brand that is ideal for your baby, you need to take into account the brand ratings, reviews of real customers and, of course, the composition: there should not be sugar or salt, taste imitators, flavors and other unnecessary additives, and for 6 8 month old babies - also milk and gluten. For this reason, the market for cereals for baby food should be studied even before they are introduced into the diet, in order to prevent possible crumbs on health.

It is also worth noting that the age at which the manufacturer "permits" to feed the child with cereals, almost always differs in the smaller direction from the WHO recommended. Remember, when it comes to dating crumbs with "adult" food, "later" and "slower" are always better than "earlier" and "faster".

Rules for handling purchased cereals for baby food

In order for the second stage of introducing complementary foods (and for some, the first) to pass without trouble, you should pay attention to some nuances when choosing, buying, storing and preparing baby cereals.

1. It is worth avoiding purchases of baby food in questionable shops or on the market - storage conditions may not be respected.

2. The packaging, especially the inner one, must not be damaged. If you overlooked and bought such porridge - throw it away without regret: the child's health is more important than any money.
3. Observe storage conditions - in a dry and dark place, without fragrant "neighbors". If the inner bag does not have a special fastener, close it with a clothespin.
4. Most cereals cannot be cooked or hall boil with boiling water - only with warm boiled water.
5. It is forbidden to give the child porridge,
the specified period after the opening of which has expired - there is a risk of infection of cereals with moths or microorganisms.
6. It is forbidden to leave "for later" already diluted porridge, which the child has not finished - just throw it away.
