American "chicken" fast food is eaten at $ 5 billion a year, but if you want to look for something healthy there, it will not be easy and tasteless.

Chicken with a beard

The man with the beard who smiles at you from the logo is not Eduard Limonov, as it may seem to an unprepared politicized Russian, but a certain "Colonel Sanders" who founded KFC in 1952. The name stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken (“fried chicken from Kentucky”) and tells us about the basic product of most of the dishes in this eatery - chicken meat.

Horror stories about fast food chicken, and especially that, we tried to forget - after all, we have to chew and swallow something as healthy and quite nutritious as possible from there.

Fat with fat "by the way"

Having previously analyzed the composition / calorie content of dishes at KFC, we knew that we would order: 3 "original strips" , wedge salad, boiled corn and americano. Such a quick lunch cost us 330 rubles.

"Strips" - meat and biomass of chicken origin generously breaded with spices. There are sharp and classic options. 3 small pieces contain 243 calories, a whopping 21 grams of protein, 13 grams of fat, and 11.5 grams of carbohydrates.

But breading, like any fat-containing product, has a very positive effect on taste.

The name of the salad "Wedges" is fully consistent with the content: inexpensive tomatoes, lettuce leaves, good old carrots. Frankly, the salad could be tasty without dressing, if you buy more expensive and tastier ingredients. There is quite a lot in the salad bucket itself - as much as 200 grams, which account for only 56 calories, 2 grams of protein, 2.5 - fat and 5.4 - carbohydrates.

As a salad dressing, a small high-calorie pomegranate with the inscription "Balsamic" is served, the cloudy brownish contents of which, apart from the name, clearly have nothing to do with balsamic (as balsamic vinegar is commonly called).

The inscription on the back showed that this 50-gram sachet alone had almost 200 calories and a whopping 20 grams of fat. About the same amount of fat in the same McDonald’s Big Mac, but at least proteins are attached to it.

Fat makes food taste better, especially if the food itself is so-so.
In the case of the Veggie salad, in the opinion of the Zozhnik, there is a clear deception of the buyer: an unsuspecting plump person on a diet takes what she thinks is a “healthy” salad (for 50-odd calories) and without hesitation slams the dressing that comes with it by default (almost per 200 calories, almost all from fat). The result is a rather high-calorie, not particularly healthy and not very tasty (because, as it were, "sore") dish.

The most honest dish at KFC is boiled corn, or rather half an ear for 49 rubles. They could not add breading to it and did not apply dressing. Half an ear promises 104 calories, almost 2 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, and about 15 grams of carbohydrates.

By the way, the apparent cheapness of fast food is based on trifles, but they clearly did a good job with pricing: for example, we could not remember when we paid almost 100 rubles for an ear of boiled corn, but 49 for half a cob seems to us quite an adequate price.
If all this is poured over Americano without sugar (89 rubles), then the total calorie content of this rather mediocre-tasting dinner will be about 400 calories without “balsamic” and about 600 with salad dressing.

Unfortunately, the rest of the KFC food options look even worse in terms of protein-fat-carbohydrates and calories.
