In taste and composition, it is somewhat similar to ours, but there are differences. Its peculiarity is that the herring is added to the salad, strongly salted. It is salted, and not lightly salted, that it is not soaked in milk to soften the taste. Balances the taste of the finished salad with potatoes and pickled onions, which must be soaked in vinegar for 15-20 minutes.

Ingredients:
- salted herring - 1 fillet;
- boiled potatoes - 5 pcs;
- onion - 1 medium head;
- boiled beets - 2 pcs;
- sour cream - 150 ml;
- table mustard hot or sweet - 1 tsp;
- vinegar - 0.5 tsp (or lemon juice);
- ground black pepper - to taste;
For the marinade you will need:
- vinegar 9 or 6% - 1 tbsp. l;
- fine salt - a pinch;
- sugar - a third of a teaspoon.
For salad dressing:
- diced onions - 0.5 pcs;
- egg yolk - 1 pc;
- green onions - a small bunch (or dill).
How to cook from a photo step by step
We boil the potatoes as conveniently: steamed, in their uniforms or in salted water, peeling them off. Cook until tender and cool. It is better to steam beets for any salad without peeling them. Or wrap in two layers of foil and bake in the oven. Beets boiled in water lose most of their vitamins, and with them taste and color. Cool and clean the vegetables.
When the main products are ready, we start slicing. Chop the onion finely. Prepare a marinade from table or apple cider vinegar, salt and sugar. Fill the onion with marinade, leave for 15-20 minutes.
While the onion is pickled, cut the vegetables and herring. Let's start with potatoes. Cut the tubers into slices, then into medium-sized cubes, larger than for herring under a fur coat or vinaigrette.
Divide the herring into fillets. One fillet can be cut into thin strips, mixed with onion half rings, covered with vegetable oil and put in the refrigerator. It is very tasty with boiled potatoes! Cut the second into thin slices, then into smaller cubes than potatoes.
Cut the beets into plates, then into small pieces. The finer the beets are cut, the more juice they will give and the faster they will color the light ingredients.
Cooking salad dressing. Mix sour cream with mustard, ground pepper and vinegar or lemon juice. You can mix sour cream with mayonnaise or use only mayonnaise (preferably thick and homemade).
We mix herring, potatoes, beets. Add the pickled onions along with the pickle. Season with sauce and mix thoroughly.
Let the salad brew a little in the refrigerator. About 20 minutes will be enough, but it is better to hold it longer so that it is soaked in the sauce.
You can serve salad with herring, beets and potatoes in a large salad bowl or in portions, laid out in a slide. Decorate with grated egg yolk, finely chopped onions and green onions. Serve with rye bread. Bon Appetit!

Salad with herring and beets, but not a fur coat! Do you know such a recipe? I know. And I do it, by the way, much more often than a herring under a fur coat. Because it's simpler. In many times. Especially considering that in our stores boiled beets are cheaper than fresh ones (and are found much more often), respectively, I make this salad from boiled beets. In this case, I spend on its preparation, in general, only 5 minutes. True, then he needs to let it brew for another half hour (better - even more).
If you have all the ingredients at hand, then such a salad with herring and beets can be prepared in the morning and eaten at lunch or in the evening.
Please note that I have no salt in the ingredients. A herring is salting him. And my herring is slightly salted. Accordingly, if your herring turns out to be saltier, then you will need ... more beets. Well, or less herring for the same amount of beets. This must be taken into account. So be sure to try the herring and beetroot salad along the way, because one of its main ingredients is also its seasoning.
